Fat-burning supplements that help you lose weight during sleep feel too good to be true. I’ve already reviewed and confirmed the effectiveness of popular options like PhenQ PM and Phen24. So, how does Night Shred hold up in this category of nighttime weight loss supplements?
What is Night Shred?
Night Shred is a fat-burning supplement that specializes in helping you lose weight while you sleep. It also promises to reduce late-night cravings for snacks which is a major cause of weight gain for many people.
One odd thing I noticed about this supplement is that it has a stronger focus on relaxation & stress reduction than it does on weight loss. While these relaxation benefits are not bad in any way, they’re just a bit out of place for a nighttime weight loss supplement.
For example, one of the most abundant ingredients in Night Shred is Ashwagandha extract. It can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), sure, but there isn’t a direct link between Ashwagandha and weight loss.
The glaring problem I see here is that Night Shred is missing L-Arginine which is found in abundance in best selling alternatives like Phen24 & PhenQ PM. L-Arginine increases the secretion of growth hormone, which, in turn, accelerates fat oxidation during sleep — making it a more relevant inclusion for nighttime fat burners.
Top Alternatives
PhenQ PM

- Prevents the cravings for nighttime snacks.
Phen24
Overall Rating: 4.6/5
- Helps your body burn excess fat at night.

Ingredients
Night Shred contains a total of 12 different ingredients, including:
Magnesium — 200 mg
Studies show that Magnesium intake can improve the quality of your sleep, especially if you suffer from insomnia. But, there is little to no meaningful connection between this mineral and nighttime weight loss.
There is one 2021 study that demonstrates a correlation between Magnesium supplementation and lower BMI. However, these results are limited to people with insulin resistance-related disorders and do not apply to healthy adults.
Ashwagandha extract — 200 mg
I’ve already discussed how ashwagandha is mostly beneficial for stress reduction and has no direct weight loss benefits. It can, however, improve your workout performance — indirectly allowing you to lose weight faster by increasing the intensity of your workout sessions. This would be a notable benefit in daytime fat burners. But it goes against the whole premise of nighttime weight loss supplements like PhenQ PM that help you get in better shape during sleep.
Melatonin — 3 mg
Melatonin is a popular sleep supplement that can enhance the overall quality and duration of your sleep. There is one 1999 study that shows how Melatonin supplementation can have a positive effect on secretion of growth hormone. Though, this study had only eight participants, which is too small scale to draw any definitive conclusions.
Proprietary Blends
Nine of the ingredients in Night Shred are part of proprietary blends. Night Shred also doesn’t provide the exact amount of the individual ingredients in these blends — making it difficult for me to judge their actual effectiveness. The three blends include:
Nighttime recovery complex — 510 mg
This blend contains GABA, Chamomile Flower powder, Passionflower powder, and Valerian root powder. Night Shred claims that these ingredients improve muscle recovery and growth during sleep. However, unlike L-Lysine HCL found in supplements like Phen24, the ingredients in this blend lack any evidence that backs these proposed benefits.
Other components like Valerian root can improve your sleep quality which might boost muscle recovery. Unfortunately again, there are no concrete scientific studies that confirm the effectiveness of this indirect benefit.
PM fat-burning complex — 81 mg
The PM fat-burning blend includes Grains of Paradise, CLA, and L-Carnitine Tartrate. The main purpose of this blend is to help you lose weight during sleep, so is it actually effective? From what I’ve seen, it’s not.
Grains of paradise can help you lose weight faster by increasing your energy expenditure. But this has the unfortunate side effect of disturbing your sleep. CLA and L-Carnitine, on the other hand, do show some weight loss benefits in animals. That said, human studies on these ingredients are inconclusive and lack any consistency.
Mood enhancement complex — 35.5 mg
The two ingredients in this blend are 5-HTP and L-Tryptophan. Among these, 5-HTP grabbed my attention first. It's a naturally occurring amino acid that reduces your appetite and makes you feel full for longer — making it easier to diet.
Though, it’s not nearly as effective as Chromium; a hunger suppressant found in fat burners like PhenQ PM. On the other hand, L-Tryptophan can decrease anxiety and depression but has no direct weight loss benefits.
What we didn't find
If I’m being honest, Night Shred is missing almost everything I look for in a nighttime weight loss supplement.
For starters, I did not find a powerful metabolism enhancer like Biotin which is present in other supplements such as PhenQ PM. It boosts fat oxidation and allows you to shed excess fat at a much faster rate. L-Theanine is also a good example of an ingredient that boosts carb metabolism at night, which — in turn — accelerates fat oxidation during sleep.
The second type of ingredient that I feel is missing from Night Shred is a growth hormone booster like L-Arginine. As I mentioned earlier, L-Arginine boosts the secretion of growth hormones which enables your body to shed excess fat at a much faster rate. This is also why its inclusion in nighttime fat burners like PhenQ PM and Phen24 make them effective.
Lastly, I would’ve also liked to see a more effective hunger suppressant like Chromium. This is because Chromium intake significantly reduces hunger and eliminates cravings for snacks in the middle of the night.
Plus, Night Shred also does not provide the exact amounts for most of its ingredients. This makes it extremely difficult for me to analyze the effectiveness and safety of this supplement as a whole.

Side Effects
Night Shred claims that this supplement does not have any recurring side effects for most healthy adults. After taking a closer look at its composition, I cannot label this nighttime fat burner as safe.
My biggest concern here is Melatonin. While it’s fairly safe when consumed occasionally, taking it daily with Night Shred can lead to issues like stomach cramps, headaches, and daytime drowsiness.
If you are taking this fat burner and experience any unintended side effects, stop using the supplement immediately. If the side effects don’t go away after a day or so, I suggest you consult your doctor.
You should also stay away from this supplement if you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, or taking prescribed medication for a major illness.
Top Alternatives
If you’re looking for fat burners that are actually effective at helping you lose weight during sleep, check out the following alternatives. Both of these include ingredients that are scientifically proven to boost fat oxidation at night. Plus, they also offer some unique secondary benefits to their users.
PhenQ PM, for example, can dramatically improve the quality of your sleep. Similarly, Phen24 also comes with daytime supplements so you can lose excess weight around the clock.
Some notable features of these alternative fat-burning supplements include:
PhenQ PM
Overall Rating: 4.7/5
- Increases the rate of fat oxidation during sleep.
- Helps your body process calories more effectively.
- Prevents the cravings for nighttime snacks.
Phen24
Overall Rating: 4.6/5
- Helps your body burn excess fat at night.
- Prevents you from waking up due to hunger.
- Makes you feel refreshed in the morning.
Final Thoughts
After going through the composition of Night Shred, I can't recommend this supplement. The main issue for me is the lack of weight-reducing ingredients and an overfocus on relaxation and sleep quality. I have to be honest, I haven't tried it myself, but i probably won't, as there's so much better out there.
If you’re looking for a supplement that will help you sleep more soundly, Night Shred might be the right choice for you. But, it is barely effective as a weight loss supplement. So, if weight loss is your primary concern, I recommend looking into the two alternative supplements I've mentioned above.
